The Scientific Career System (SCS), in partnership with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRIce), conducted the Scientific Career System Orientation and Research Colloquium at the Social Hall, PhilRice, Nueva Ecija on June 16, 2017.
The orientation aimed to introduce the system to researchers who are employed in the government. It was attended by researchers from PhilRice,Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech), and Philippine Carabao Center (PCC).
Dr. Eduardo Jimmy P. Quilang, Chairman of PhilRice Scientific Career and Magna Carta Evaluation Committee and the Acting Deputy Executive Director for Research, delivered his welcome remarks where he encouraged the participants to join the Scientific Career System. He cited the declininge number of scientists coming from PhilRice.
In behalf of the Magna Carta Committee, Dir. Luningning E. Samarita-Domingo discussed the Magna Carta and Hazard Allowance for Science and Technology workers along with the accreditation and benefits. She showed the participants the different benefits that they would get once they become career scientists. She emphasized the important role of the institution in the implementation of these benefits.
Furthermore, Acd. Evelyn Mae Tecson-Mendoza gave a presentation about Ethics in Research. She presented the different ethical concerns and guidelines in writing a research paper. She also cited the Ethical Principles and Guidelines for Filipino Scientists published by NAST.
Another topic presented by Acd. Mendoza was on Predatory Journals and Conferences. She emphasized the importance of writing and sharing scientific outputs through publications and scientific articles. She also warned the participants to be careful and study all the aspects before joining a conference. Acd. Mendoza showed the list of predatory journals for their references.
