Eleven new researchers (upper row) from the government service were appointed to Scientist rank in the Scientific Career System namely: Dr. Norvie L. Manigbas (PhilRice), Susan May F. Calumpang (UP Los Baños), Rosalina M. Lapitan (Philippine Carabao Center - PCC), Arnel N. Del Barrio (PCC), Erlinda G. Naret (UP Visayas), Cristina M. Bajet (UPLB), Eufrocina P. Atabay (PCC), Edwin C. Atabay (PCC), Edwin Alcantara (UPLB), Nelly S. Aggangan (UPLB) and Arvin C. Diesmos (National Museum of the Philippines). All were awarded Scientist I rank except for Dr. Diesmos who was promoted to Scientist III.
These new scientists were sworn in by Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Francisco T. Duque III (2nd from left – bottom row) on June 30, 2014 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, in Quezon City. Also witnessing the swearing in are (L-R bottom row) DOST Undersecretary Fortunato de la Peña, Special Technical Committee Members Dr. Priscilla C. Sanchez, Acd. Ruben L. Villareal, Dr. Ceferino P. Maala, Acd. Fabian M. Dayrit, National Academy of Science and Technology President William G. Padolina, and Scientific Career Council Executive Secretary Evelyn May Tecson-Mendoza. The Scientific Career System is a reward and recognition system of the Civil Service Commission and the Department of Science and Technology that awards scientist rank to highly productive full time researchers in the government service as a means of attraction and retention in the government R&D.
